Sometimes your first baby has 4 legs, and when you grow your family you want to include them in the newborn session. It is important to be prepared in order to have a successful session with your dog included. Here are a couple tips and things to consider before bringing your pets to your newborn session.

      CHECK YOURSELF

As much as you love the idea of bringing your dog to the newborn session, are you in the right mental state? It can be busier and more stressful and I’m sure you don’t want anything to take away from the experience. If you’re feeling up to it, that’s great! What’s next?

      SAFETY

The most important thing to consider is the safety of your newborn. Before bringing your dog to your newborn photo session, carefully consider their size, temperament and behaviour. Have they been introduced to the baby already? How did they react? Are they younger and active or older and relaxed? Are they well trained and follow directions?

      PLANNING

Consider bringing someone along to care for your dog during the session, as they’ll likely not want to sit quietly the entire session and you don’t want to be stressed, you want to enjoy the experience of the session.
Exercising them before the session will also help to tire them out so they aren’t too full of energy in the studio. I also recommend bringing along their favourite toys and treats as we can use them to encourage good behaviour and to look at the camera or baby.
